How to sew a cotton T-shirt. How to sew a women's T-shirt: patterns and master classes

Currently, the choice of T-shirts is very wide and varied, but every person wants to create something original and special. Making your own T-shirt is cheap and very easy. This activity will help you spend time with pleasure, since the pattern of this product is easy to construct, does not require a large amount of fabric, and the whole process will not take more than two hours.

To create such a product, you need to have general sewing skills, attentiveness and the desire to create an extraordinary designer item. Some necessary information in constructing a T-shirt will help you make this dream come true.

Building the basis of the pattern

To correctly construct a pattern for any T-shirt, you need to make a drawing of the base on paper. It can be noted that this drawing is simple, since there is no need to draw a bust and waist dart, which will significantly simplify the task.

First, you need to take measurements in strict sequence: neck circumference, chest, waist, back width. They are divided in half, since the drawing is built in half size.

On the resulting line, measure 1⁄2 of the width of the back and mark it with a dot. Now we calculate the armhole. Divide the chest circumference by 2 and add 3-4 cm. Draw perpendiculars from the resulting points. Now the back, armhole and front of the product are marked on the drawing.

We divide the armhole area in half and draw a line down. It will indicate the side cut of the front and back of the product. Additionally, having taken the measurement of the Back Waist Length, set this measurement down and draw a horizontal line - this will be the waist line. From the waist down, set aside 18-20 cm, mark the hip line.

Now you need to build a neck line. We calculate the measurement, divide the neck circumference by 3 and add 0.5 cm. We put this measurement at the top of the right angle, called the back neck width. We put a point, from this point we draw a line 2.5 cm high and draw a neck line. From the two perpendiculars drawn at the highest points, we put 2.5 cm down and put a notch.

Now you need to build the armhole.

From the top point of the neck through point 2.5, set aside the shoulder width measurement +1.5 cm and draw a line. In the drawing, from the right corner of the front, we put 2.5 cm upward, draw a horizontal line, and transfer the width of the back neckline to this line. To calculate the depth of the front neckline, you need to add 1 cm to the width of the back neckline. From the top point of the front neckline, draw the shoulder width + 1.5 cm. We connect the extreme points with a curved armhole line.

Draw a right angle, put the length of the sleeve down, draw the width of the sleeve to the right, it is calculated by the formula: divide the chest circumference by 3 and add 6 cm, put a dot. We put 3⁄4 of the depth of the armhole down - this is the height of the collar. In the drawing, the sleeve width is divided in half and is indicated by a mark. From this point we draw lines to the right and left to the depth of the sleeve, and draw a line for the edge. The resulting drawing will be the sleeve of the T-shirt.

The video below shows a clear example of creating a pattern in a short time using a special computer program.

Modeling

This is, first of all, the development of clothing models, in which it is important to take into account both the taste characteristics of a person and the characteristics of a person’s figure. In other words, this is a certain basis for the manufacture of a product. Modeling consists of four stages: analysis of the idea, selection of the basis for the product, introducing changes to the resulting basis and sewing the garment.

To fully understand, you need to look at some T-shirt models.

Off Shoulder T-Shirt Dress

We cut the resulting base of the T-shirt pattern into parts for the front and back. We put these details on tracing paper. To get a dropped shoulder, you need to increase the length of the shoulder seam. We put a mark and connect it with a smooth line to the armhole, we get a dropped sleeve line.

Full sleeve

A special feature is that the sleeves are cut out together with the front and back. These sleeves are varied in shape, size, and armhole depth. From the top point of the shoulder of the back and front, draw a line indicating the length. At the depth of the armhole we draw a parallel line. From the final point of the sleeve length we draw a perpendicular. Smoothly connect the points to the waist line.

Polo shirt

On the front pattern, mark the depth of the polo fastener (about 15 cm). Separately, we cut out the placket, in finished form it is 3.5 cm and 16 cm long. We shorten the sleeve to the desired length, reduce the base of the front and back by 2.5 cm along the side seam for a fit. Additionally we build a collar.

Construction of a pattern for this model in the next video.

With raglan sleeve

We place the front half of the sleeve and the T-shirt on top of each other, aligning the shoulder sections with the top point of the sleeve itself, which is at an angle with a slight slope. It is worth taking into account that the greater this slope, the more convex the sleeve will be.

We divide the back neckline in half, put point A. From point A we draw a tangent to the armhole. The intersection of the tangent with the armhole is point B. We divide AB in half, draw a perpendicular 1 cm upward, and connect it with a smooth line.

We set aside 4.5 cm along the front neckline and mark it with point A1. We connect it tangent to the armhole, we get point B1. We divide A1B1 in half, put a perpendicular of 1 cm upward, and connect it with a smooth curved line. Then, we cut all the details on paper, and glue the remaining back and armhole to the sleeve.

Below is an example of a multi-layer sleeve.

For full

The pattern for a plus size T-shirt is not particularly different from the pattern for a regular T-shirt. To do this, you need to cut the front and back from the bottom to the shoulder seam and move them apart a couple of centimeters, depending on the fullness of the figure. Then, along the armhole and side seam, add 1.5-2 cm to expand the product.

We offer a master class on sewing a large T-shirt in the following video.

Hooded

Along the front we set aside the desired length of the hood; on the pattern it is calculated through the crown of the head and measure the distance from the middle of the back to the middle of the front. The face hole depends on the model chosen.

The shape can be a circle or an oval, it depends on your own preferences. This style has 2 side and shoulder seams. This T-shirt is not only comfortable, but also original.

V-neck

This cutout option is the simplest. It is suitable if there is not enough time for more complex processing.

To do this, take a front pattern and mark the depth of the V-neck on it (about 10 cm). Such a cutout should be positioned perfectly straight, without any deviations. You can mark with a ruler or draw a smooth line with soap. We connect with a straight line to the front neckline point, we get the original neckline of the T-shirt.

What fabric are they made from?

Nowadays, it is impossible to imagine every woman's wardrobe without T-shirts. This item is endowed with such properties as practicality, convenience, maximum comfort and versatility. It is suitable not only for sports, but also fits perfectly into your everyday look.

In order for a T-shirt not to cause discomfort when worn, it must be pleasant to the touch; this, first of all, depends on what the thing is made of.

Let's look at a few examples of fabrics from which you can sew a practical T-shirt.

Poplin

This fabric is made from natural cotton. Thick and thin threads, intertwining, create a special texture inherent in this fabric. It is painted only using environmentally friendly dyes, thanks to which it has very high stability.

This material has a lot of advantages. Poplin does not fade, has a high level of strength, a pleasant texture, retains heat, does not wrinkle, is hypoallergenic, and has a reasonable price.

To choose a truly high-quality poplin, you need to look to see if the addition of synthetic fibers is indicated on the label. If they are present, such fabric is of poor quality, it is very dangerous for allergy sufferers, does not absorb water well and wrinkles easily.

Knitwear

This material is knitted from natural or synthetic threads on a machine. The loops of which it consists can change position and stretch due to a certain arrangement. The starting materials are yarn and threads.

One of the advantages is the structure of the fabric, which does not wrinkle. Knitwear is airproof, which is why it keeps you warm in cold weather and keeps you warm on hot days. It stretches perfectly, thereby adapting to any figure and is easy to care for, since it does not even require ironing.

Cotton

This fabric is one of the natural ones. A cotton T-shirt is perfect for summer, as this fabric quickly absorbs moisture and maintains a comfortable temperature for a long time.

It is breathable, cotton fabrics literally “breathe” on the body of any person. Such fabrics do not deform when washed, are quite strong and stable, which is why things cannot stretch or shrink. Even with frequent washing, they do not lose a number of these characteristics.

The main advantage is that fabrics made of cotton do not fray when sewing and are pleasant to the touch.

Lace

Currently, T-shirts made of lace are becoming increasingly popular. In combination with the right bottom, such T-shirts endow the wearer with sophistication and sophistication, adding notes of romance, dreaminess and tenderness to her image.

This fabric has an elegant openwork pattern that attracts attention. It is versatile, breathable, and has an interesting texture. A T-shirt made of lace will not only be beautiful, but also elegant. It is she who will add a touch of festivity to the image.

Kulirka or kulirka smooth surface

This material is made from cotton, which is what gives the fabric many excellent properties. It is quite durable, but at the same time very light and airy.

It does not stretch, does not shrink after washing, and keeps its shape remarkably well. A T-shirt made from a sweatshirt is perfect for the summer, as it absorbs moisture from the skin, but at the same time has good breathability.

Thanks to special loops, the satin stitch does not wrinkle, retains its original appearance even after washing, and does not require ironing, so items made from this fabric can be stored in a closet and worn without using an iron.

Interlock (dvulastic)

Interlock consists of 100% cotton, is a double-sided material, therefore it has a second name - double-strap. It is very wear-resistant and durable, able to return to its original shape even after washing and stretching.

Interlock retains heat in cold weather and protects against hypothermia. Easy to iron and retains color for a long time. This is one of the natural and hypoallergenic materials, and most importantly, it is quite easy to care for.

How to cut?

In order for everything to turn out perfectly smooth, you need to make the pattern on the fabric on a perfectly flat surface. In addition, you will need scissors, tools to help with marking, a ruler and chalk.

The existing fabric must be used rationally, closely arranging the existing parts. First you need to lay out all the large patterns and patterns that have a fold. The back piece and collar need to be placed so that their center is on the fold of the fabric as they do not need to be cut. Then there are smaller parts, and so on until the smallest one. You should start cutting out only when the entire pattern is completely marked with soap or chalk on the fabric.

The parts that have a fold and a second pair are placed face to face on the reverse side. This is very convenient, because it is on this side that you can make various kinds of marks: pockets, locations of buttons, folds. This way, these chalk marks will not be visible on the front of the product.

It is very easy to sew together the items marked on the reverse side, namely those parts that have a pair.

The front side is used to locate parts that do not have a pair, which need to be joined due to the existing pattern or design. When cutting them out, it is necessary to determine the correct location of the part.

Do not forget about the correct location of the direction of the grain of the part with the grain of the fabric. Because the fabric along the lobar thread is less likely to be distorted.

There are several types of layout:

  1. Longitudinal fold (Fold in half with the front side facing inward).
  2. Transverse (Folds inward along the transverse line with the right sides facing inward).
  3. Two folds (The fabric is placed along the warp threads).
  4. Turn (This layout is not economical, since there are many lunges. It is used when laying out parts that have an asymmetrical shape).
  5. Partial fold (The unfolding of the fabric is carried out according to the width, respectively, along the warp thread, since folded parts need a lot of space. The remaining parts are located on the fabric, placed in one layer).
  6. Rotation (It is used in the case of a small amount of fabric; it is cut and turned 180 degrees).
  7. Obliquely (Used if parts need to be made more movable, it is laid out, accordingly, obliquely).

It is worth noting that when choosing a layout, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the fabric and the pattern itself.

All about the correct layout of the pattern on the fabric in the next video.

How to sew with your own hands: a master class for beginners

A self-created T-shirt will make your look original and different from others. It is quite easy to sew such a necessary wardrobe item, and most importantly, it does not require much expense. To achieve greater uniqueness, the resulting product can be decorated with various stripes, beads or ribbons at your personal discretion.

If you have an unnecessary T-shirt in your closet, you can use it to create a new product. To do this, you need to rip open the old product, iron the seams and transfer everything to paper. The main task is to check the fit of both the shoulder and side seams so that everything looks even. An armhole is not needed, because this model of product has lowered shoulders.

The remaining pieces of fabric will serve as the edging of the neckline. Parameters such as width and length need to be calculated independently, it all depends on personal wishes.

Sewing the product

First you need to process the shoulder seams, folding the front half and the back, chipping them with needles. To sew such a T-shirt, you need an overlocker, so the seams on the product can only be overcast. After the seams are removed, the product will take on exactly this appearance.

Neck facing

  • To do this, you need to divide the front and back into 2 equal parts, marking the points with soap or a lead pencil. These marks must be placed strictly in the middle and on the sides.
  • Next, you need to fold the back and shelf in half and add additional points.
  • On the back side, the allowances should remain, which were obtained by ironing the shoulder seams.
  • It is necessary that the strip is smaller than the circumference of the neck. In this case, the edging will not turn inside out.

Instructions

First you need to take measurements: length, bust, hips, waist. Draw it on paper. The patterns of the back and front are almost identical. You need a rectangle, where the length of the rectangle is the length of the T-shirt, the width is the volume of the chest. Add 3-4 centimeters for fit

Make appropriate markings on the rectangle - at the waist, draw a smooth concave line inward, as if to “fit” the rectangle. If the volume of the hips is much larger than the volume of the chest, smoothly cut the pattern down a few centimeters. Place the patterns one on top of the other and draw neck lines. For simplicity and accuracy, cut the back and front necklines according to your own. That's it, the patterns are ready.

Before cutting out, the fabric must be folded in half, with the right side facing inward. Place the patterns on the fabric strictly along the knitted columns, using them as split lines. Add 1.5 centimeters to the seams, 4 centimeters to the hem. Carefully pin the patterns to the fabric with sewing pins. Cut out carefully with sharp scissors, trying not to move the patterns from the knitted fabric.

Draw it yourself, cut it out, or choose it on the Internet and print it. Moreover, how many colors are present in the drawing, so many copies need to be made. Then cut out pieces of the same color on each sheet. Thus, you will get several stencils, which you will alternately redraw on your t-shirt.

If you don't want to bother with stencils, apply the image to the fabric using another method. Print the inscription or picture you like on special thermal paper. Moreover, the drawing must be mirrored so that the image looks correct. It is better to select the best quality print in the settings.

White paper, when transferred to fabric, gives a slightly yellowish color. If this is important to you, cut the drawing along the contour.

Attach the picture on thermal paper to and iron it for one to two minutes. Then let your application cool for three to four minutes. Then carefully remove the paper with your fingernails or tweezers. The design will remain on your T-shirt.

A white T-shirt is a unique basic element that must be present in a fashionable girl’s wardrobe. And some have several of the same things. If you're bored with the monotony of a white tank, feel free to decode it. Moreover, now handmade clothes are at the peak of popularity.

Decide on bright embroidery

Bright embroidery on the chest is an ideal decor option for a white T-shirt. The main thing is to choose the right motive and method of needlework so that the work brings true pleasure. There are a lot of possibilities for embroidery today. The first option is to make it satin stitch. To do this, select a suitable pattern and go to the store for floss. If you decide on the second option - cross stitch - you need to purchase not only floss: consult about an overlay canvas, with the help of which you will be able to realize the desired design. The third option for embroidery on a white T-shirt is beads. For work, it is preferable to choose Czech. It is more even, and all the beads are the same size and color. With him you will be confident in the result. Please note that it can be done either along the contour or. Also, in this case, take care to strengthen the fabric on the reverse side, because the decor will turn out heavy.

Sunny bunnies

An interesting way to decorate a T-shirt is to stick a large number of assorted (possibly multi-colored) rhinestones on it. To do this, use a special glue gun or transparent “Moment”. However, a more shocking option is to use improvised items for decoration on the T-shirt, which will also reflect light. The most accessible material is old CDs. Cut them and place them on glue. Or make long “chains” from the pieces and decorate the T-shirt with such “necklaces”.

Tie knots

Well, not exactly knots. And, for example, an elegant openwork edging. With the help of colored knitted details you can successfully decorate a white T-shirt. Knit a piping that suits your style and taste. It is best to use thin cotton threads for this. For example, bouquets of voluminous knitted flowers, insect representatives (butterflies, ladybugs) or abstract openwork patterns and motifs look great. You can use them to decorate the bottom, neckline, and even the straps of a T-shirt in an original way.

Sew on the buttons!

Incredibly popular today.

It is used to decorate living quarters and clothing. To decorate a white T-shirt, you can use buttons in bright or muted colors. By playing with shades, you will create a unique designer item that will have no analogues.

A girl's wardrobe must have T-shirts and T-shirts. Sometimes they have a unique style and interesting design. However, for the most part, such clothes have the most ordinary, and sometimes downright boring appearance. Try decorating a T-shirt yourself; you can do it at home.

Lace decor

T-shirt decoration with lace. This variation will give the product femininity and romance. This is due to the fact that lace is light and airy. You can sew lace along the edges of the sleeves and neckline. You can also make various patterns from lace, or even flower arrangements. Who has any imagination?

Skeleton T-shirt

Design with scissors. With the help of such a cutting tool, you can transform a T-shirt beyond recognition. Cotton products are most suitable for this design. A popular option for cutting a T-shirt is the T-shirt. On the back side of the product, one vertical incision is made in the area of the spine, and then horizontal incisions are made at intervals of 1.5-2 cm, imitating the ribs. Between the cuts, the fabric will be interestingly wrapped into a tube and will look attractive.

Lightning decoration

An ordinary zipper will help to transform and paint a T-shirt. You can cut the sleeves right up to the neckline and sew zippers there, preferably with sliders on both sides. Or you can simply sew on an unzipped zipper, bending it in an interesting way. It would be better if such lightning were multi-colored.

Rhinestones or sequins

When your T-shirt still looks great, it has an interesting style and current colors, but you are already tired of it, then refresh it with sequins or glue on rhinestones. The number of sparkles depends only on the desire of the owner. These are just some of the ways you can redesign an old jersey. You can also decorate it with embroidery, beads, paint it with felt-tip pens or paints, or make applique.

Many fashionistas believe that plain T-shirts are boring and ordinary. However, it is from such T-shirts that you can make unique and truly exclusive things. One way to transform an everyday monochromatic look is to decorate it with bright scarlet poppies. The design process will not take much of your time, but the result will be amazing!

Lay the T-shirt on a flat surface and make two slits from the collar to the armpits. Using a safety pin attached to one side of the scarf, thread it through the holes. Tie the ends of the scarf with a lush bow and straighten its edges.

Another option for a romantic finish is fabric roses. Choose a knitted fabric in a color that matches the T-shirt. Cut the fabric into narrow strips, gather each one and fold it into the shape of a rose, securing the flower with a few stitches. Make several roses and then attach them at the shoulder with safety pins or sew them on.

A T-shirt with an applique looks very impressive. Choose a fabric with a beautiful print and cut a rectangular motif from it. Baste it to the front of the T-shirt and then machine stitch it. Embroider part of the design with matching sequins. Instead of sequins, you can attach rhinestones using a glue gun.

A simple design option is fringe. Using sharp scissors, carefully cut off the hem at the bottom of the T-shirt and on the sleeves. Then make many parallel cuts. The knit will curl slightly, creating a fringed effect. This finish looks especially beautiful on plain T-shirts in dark and bright colors.

Drawing on T-shirts

Even if you don't know how to draw at all, you can make a creative T-shirt with an original design. Try sprucing up a plain white t-shirt with long or short sleeves. Choose something made of thick knitwear; the pattern on it will look especially impressive.

Prepare fabric paints in black or dark blue. Lay the T-shirt on a table covered with film. Place a piece of cardboard inside the product. This is necessary so that the paint does not saturate the fabric and does not leave prints on the back side.

Load up the paint with a wide brush and flick it onto the fabric with a sharp movement to create chaotic spots. Once you have achieved the desired result, dry the paint and then iron the T-shirt. After this, the item can be washed without fear that the design will fade.

A white T-shirt can be painted with special fabric markers. Use a school ruler with circle holes or cut out a stencil using an upside down glass. Place the stencil on the fabric and draw circles with different colored markers so that they overlap one another. In this way, you can decorate the entire T-shirt or decorate only part - the bottom or neck.

For the hardworking - a bright light burns through life, for the lazy - a dim candle

Sewing tops and T-shirts is quick and easy. Part 1.

comment 9 comments

Good afternoon, my dear self-taught seamstresses. I continue to publish articles on the sewing cycle. As you remember, 2-3 months ago I talked about a simple and clear way to create. The one and only one according to which all other dresses, T-shirts, blouses, jackets and even coats are created and sewn))).

Then I decided to take a break and not immediately rush into battle with the finished basic pattern, but change the topic a little and tell you about shuttlecocks - and so another one was born.

And today I feel a surge of strength sufficient to once again return to modeling based on our basic pattern. Of course, you are all waiting for me to tell you about the dress now. But I will disappoint you.

We will not start with dresses, we will start with tops and T-shirts and through them we will begin to sneak up on dresses

Because if you created your very first basic pattern for your very first time, then the first product you sew may not turn out as beautiful as you expected - and this will completely kill your faith in your abilities (which I by no means I want to admit). I know a bunch of people who drew a pattern, cut the fabric, sewed the cut pieces together, put them on themselves, looked in the mirror and were DISAPPOINTED.

This usually happens for the following reasons.

  1. First reason. Your pattern was made with an error, and you realized this after you cut and connected the details of the dress. In the wrong pattern may be to blame an incorrectly taken measurement, inattentive adherence to instructions for drawing a pattern, or the author himself writing a training article. Even I, the great and terrible Klishevskaya, can make mistakes (I’m also a person, not a robot), sometimes I find errors in my articles and rewrite them from BEFORE publication on the site, and sometimes AFTER you, dear readers, notice it (yes, yes there was such a case).
  2. The second reason. You chose the wrong style of dress and it (even though it was made correctly) doesn’t suit you, simply because you don’t look like that sensual blonde whose photo in a beautiful pink dress inspired you to take on sewing feats. It’s like in a store - the dresses hanging in your size range do not always fit your body type (out of 20 dresses in your size, one or two will look good on you. That’s why I always advise: before sewing anything, find and try on yourself a model with a similar cut; find out whether this style suits you, or whether it’s better not to even start sewing it.

Based on these considerations, let's start carefully, be patient for a little while without a dress. Let's start by sewing a couple of cool tops. You'll see this will make you happy, because...

Firstly, the top requires very little material(if you make a mistake, you risk “ruining” a small piece of fabric). A top is an ideal way to test the suitability of your base pattern. On the top, you will have no fear in your hands and eyes, you will work on the armholes, the neckline - you will practice, get your hand in - and you will approach sewing a dress from the position of “an experienced and experienced fashion designer”))).

Secondly, the topic has one undeniable advantage - it is small. And that's why it sews very quickly. You will be pleased with such an instant and easy end result of your sewing experiments.

Thirdly, the top is easier to sew than a dress; in fact, the top itself is similar to the top part of a dress of the same style as itself. In theory, by mentally lengthening any top, we will see a dress. That's why we start working with the firebox.

Look for yourself - if we learn to do TOPIC with a round yoke, then after this it will be easy and simple for us to sew DRESS with a round yoke.

After we practice sewing TOPA with flounces, we will fearlessly go purchase fabric for a similar “ruffled” DRESS.

And after sewing TOPA with U-shape neck, where the halves of the bodice overlap each other, we will calmly begin to cut similar cut dress– even our pattern of the bodice from the top will fit it, all that remains for us is to lengthen the lower “hem” part of the top.

In general, I hope you understand what I mean. We will start working with the tops, to train your hand and eye for sewing a more ambitious project called “DRESS».

Now let's see

what tops for sewing I have prepared for you in the near future.

We will start with simple models, and gradually move forward as they become more complex.

in the second article of the series about topics - we will look at

In the fourth part we will sew

In the fifth part - we will sew

Many of you have encountered the fact that the quality of purchased items does not always correspond to their price. But, with the help of an overlocker and a sewing machine, you can sew many everyday items yourself, the quality will be higher, and the price of the product will be significantly reduced. I suggest sewing a sleeveless T-shirt from knitwear, just for the summer heat.

This T-shirt is universal and will suit both boys and girls.

To create a pattern, take the following measurements:

1. Neck circumference – measurements are taken along the circumference of the neck.

2. Chest circumference - the measuring tape runs parallel to the floor at chest level and under the arms.

3. Length of the product - measured from the point where the neck meets the shoulder, and down to the desired length of the product.

Armhole height - measured along the back, from the end of the shoulder to the armpit level, in the diagram this is the distance from measurement 1 to measurement 2.

Neck depth - from measurement 1 to the desired neck depth, from 5 to 15 cm.

The shoulder width for a T-shirt will be approximately 5-7 cm.

Beginners in design can be advised to make a pattern first on paper, and then check its size with one of the child’s favorite T-shirts.

Fold the fabric into a fold and draw two parallel lines for the top and bottom of the T-shirt. Along the top line, set aside 1/4 of the neck circumference measurement plus 1.5 cm to the left. Place a mark, this will be the starting point of the shoulder. From it to the left, set aside the shoulder width measurement, here it was 5 cm. Lower the perpendicular down by 1-1.5 cm and draw a line from point 1 to point 2.

Lower the perpendicular from point 1 down and mark the armhole height measurement on it.

Along the mid-front line, mark the depth of the neckline.

Round off the lines of the armhole and neckline. Cut out the front of the tank from the fabric, adding seam allowances. 0.7 cm (seam width on an overlocker) to the side and shoulder sections, and 2.5 cm to the hem.

Place the front of the shirt on the fabric with right sides facing each other. Draw a line for the neckline of the back, deepening it by 1.5 - 2 cm.

T-shirt assembly sequence:

Set the overlock differential feed setting to a higher value when sewing shoulder seams, so the fabric will gather a little and will not stretch during further wear. When sewing side seams, use the standard differential feed setting.

Measure the length of the neckline using a tape measure. Cut out strips of knitted fabric for edging, 4 cm wide and 3/4 of the length of the armholes and neckline. Sew the short sides of the edging strips.

Pin the ring-stitched edging strips to the neckline and armholes, pulling them evenly. Sew on an overlocker with a three-thread stitch, in a circle.

Attach the finishing stitch foot to the coverstitch machine. Fold the free edge of the edging over and pin it in place. When sewing on a cover machine, use extra scraps of fabric at the beginning and end of the stitch.

This operation can also be performed on a sewing machine by selecting one of the elastic stitches.

Sew the free edge of the edging with a single-needle or two-needle narrow cover stitch.

Also process the neckline; you can combine different types of seams in one product. Hem the bottom of the T-shirt, secure the ends of the threads so that the seam does not unravel. The shirt is ready, good luck with your sewing.

This is an easy way to sew a women's or children's T-shirt with your own hands. A pattern is not needed - it will be replaced by a suitable-sized and well-fitting ready-made T-shirt. In addition, the matter is made easier by the fact that you will not need to cut out and sew in the sleeves separately: here they are one-piece. Therefore, short-sleeved T-shirts are suitable as a sample.

You will need:

Two types of knitwear: for the T-shirt itself and for finishing;

Scissors;

Pencil or fabric marker;

Flexible ruler (you can get by with a centimeter);

Overlock;

Ready-made T-shirt for sample.

Sequence of work:

1. Fold the T-shirt fabric in half as shown in the photo. Fold the sample T-shirt in half, place it fold to fold on the knitwear, outline the contours of the future T-shirt and cut out one part of the T-shirt.

2. Now, using the cut piece as a template, cut out a second similar piece in the same way.

3. Cut the neckline deeper on the front piece. Refer to the same sample T-shirt.
