How to finish knitting correctly. Learning to finish knitting a scarf

“The end is the crown of the matter” - this is what the popular proverb says, and this wisdom is applicable to all types of human activity, and to knitting needlework too. Every craftswoman knows that finishing a product correctly is extremely important for its appearance. To learn the nuances of how to finish knitting and what methods of closing loops are best used when creating a variety of things - a scarf, hat or sweater, read the recommendations selected in this article.

How to bind off stitches with knitting needles

Needlewomen have come up with many different ways to easily finish knitting. Depending on the chosen embodiment, the last row allows the knitted item to stretch freely or maintain the selected shape. Let's take a closer look at ways to close the loops at the end of a row with knitting needles in commonly used patterns and types of knitting. Do not forget that the edge (first) loop is removed without knitting.

Elastic way

To ensure that the edge of the product stretches well, use elastic closure of the loops with knitting needles:

  1. Yarn over, keeping in mind that if the next knit stitch is done towards you, purl yarn over, the thread is thrown over the right knitting needle away from you.
  2. Knit the next stitch according to the pattern.
  3. The left knitting needle is inserted into the yarn over, and the last knitted loop is pulled through with the right one - two remain on the right.
  4. Insert the left knitting needle into the first loop, and with the right one pull the remaining one through it - only one remains.
  5. Repeat steps. The cut end of the thread is pulled through the last loop and the knot is tightened.

Closing 2x2 elastic loops

To accurately complete such a pattern, you need to apply the rule: before the first among identical (knit or purl) loops in the group, yarn over and knit the first one. Close the resulting 3 loops in an elastic way, as described above, so that only one remains. Before the second one in the group, the yarn over is not made, but is removed from the right knitting needle to the left one, then they are knitted together in stockinette stitch.

Closing the neck loops

There are many ways to finish a knitted item with a neckline. For example, make a picot, giving the item additional decor, or finish knitting in such a way that you can then add an elastic band to the neckline. Let's look at how to properly close the loops on the knitting needles in the second option. Using a tape measure, you need to calculate the number of loops that need to be closed to get the desired width of the neckline. Next, you need to divide the number by 2 and remove one half onto a thread.

The remaining loops are divided into 4 parts (in the same number of stages the knitting will be closed), and the rule is followed: if a whole number does not work out, the first parts that are closer to the center of the product are made larger by 1 loop (for example, 30 is divided into 8+8+7 +7). The first part is closed at a time: remove 2 without knitting, then use the left knitting needle to hook the first one, pull the second one through it. Next, knit 1 loop according to the pattern, do this stretch again, close another one, and so on until the end of this part.

Next, knit 2 rows according to the pattern; at the end of the second, leave the thread in front of the last loop without knitting it. Then, in 2 steps, the loops in the second group are closed: in the same way as in the first part, half the loops are closed, 2 rows are knitted, and the remaining part is completed. The third is knitted in the same way, divided into 3 steps, and the fourth is closed with 1 loop in every second row. For the remaining half of the cutout loops, repeat the steps in the indicated sequence.

How to close loops with a needle

Use this method to complete the knitting by cutting the working thread so that its end is 3 times longer than the width of the product, and thread the yarn into a needle with a blunt end. Closing off loops with a needle is very easy to do: first, insert the needle into the middle of the first two loops from right to left. Then bring the first loop through the middle from left to right, dropping it from the needle - it is already closed. Complete the last row one at a time.

How to finish knitting a hat

The times when knitting was a necessary handicraft in everyday life are long gone. Despite this, the number of master knitters is only growing. Are unique handmade items at the peak of popularity? Almost all needlewomen are interested in the question: how to finish knitting? There are many ways to close the last row.

How to finish knitting correctly?

  • The easiest way to finish knitting correctly is to tuck the edge of the fabric into a braid. In this case, the first two loops are knitted together. Makes 1 loop. It is transferred to the left knitting needle. Next, knit it and the next loop together. This is how all the loops of the row are closed. The thread is pulled through the last loop. Next, it is cut off and hidden on the wrong side.
  • To choose a method for finishing knitting, you need to decide what the edge of the finished product will be. It can be elastic and non-stretchy.
  • When closing the neck and trims, the Italian method is usually used. Simply put, it involves pulling a needle and thread through the loops. In this case, they seem to be sheathed. The edge remains elastic. This method is most suitable for fabric knitted with a 1 by 1 elastic band. In this case, the edge does not stretch. The length of the thread for closure should be 3 times longer than the fabric. We insert it into a needle with a blunt tip. We insert the needle into the first loop. She moves from right to left. We stretch the thread, remove the loop from the knitting needle. Insert the needle through one loop. We stretch the thread from right to left. At the same time, we do not lower the loop, we leave it on the knitting needle. Insert the needle into the previous skipped stitch. We perform the movement from right to left. We stretch the thread. Remove the two loops from the knitting needle through which the thread was passed. We pass the thread through the next 4th loop from left to right, insert the needle into the last dropped loop, on the contrary, from right to left. We remove the loop. We skip one loop and insert the needle into the next one. We repeat the steps described above. There is one secret in this method. To make the edge look neater, the last 2 rows are knitted with knitting needles of a smaller diameter.
  • In order for the pocket or neck, or rather its neckline, to be ironed neatly, you can close them with a serrated row. First, two loops are knitted according to the pattern. Then the left knitting needle is inserted into the first loop on the right knitting needle behind the front wall. A second loop is pulled through it. I managed to close one loop. We close another one in the same way. Transfer the resulting 2 loops to the left knitting needle. Cast on 2 stitches on the right needle. Cast off 4 loops: 2 transferred to the left needle and 2 cast on. In this way we close the entire row. Pull the thread through the remaining last loop, fasten and break it.
  • Straight shoulder seams can be closed using 3 needles. In this case, two fabrics remain on two knitting needles. The knitting needles are held in the left hand. They are directed in one direction, located parallel to each other. A thread comes off from one of the canvases. You can use thread from a new ball. We take the 3rd knitting needle in our right hand. Use the right needle to pick up both first stitches on the left needles. We pull the thread through them. It turns out that we knitted both loops. There is 1 loop left on the right needle. We knit the next 2 loops in the same way. We pull the resulting new loop through the loop left on the right knitting needle. We knit this way until the end of the edge. Pull the thread through the last loop. We tighten it and secure it.
  • Sometimes it is necessary to close the loops so that a smooth outline is formed. This is usually how sleeve armholes are formed. In this case, steps made from closed hinges look sloppy. This method affects 2 rows. In the first, the loops are closed in the usual way, pulling one through the other. In the second row you need to remove the 1st loop. Knit the second one according to the pattern. Pull the removed 1st loop through the 2nd loop. Knit to the end of the row. Fasten and cut the thread.

How to finish a row?

The loops can be closed according to the pattern. So the 1 by 1 elastic band is finished in the following way. The 1st loop is knitted, the 2nd loop is purl. Pull the knit stitch through the purl stitch. Knit a new loop, purl the next one. Pull the purl through the front. Alternate these methods and cover the entire row to the end. Thanks to this method, the closed loops will lie evenly along the edge of the finished fabric.

The closed edge may look different. If you finish knitting on the front side, the resulting edge will lie on top. On the wrong side, on the contrary, it will be less visible.

After the knitting is closed, a tail of thread is formed. It can be used for stitching fabric. In this case, it is better to leave the thread longer. The length of the thread directly depends on the thickness of the yarn and the diameter of your knitting needles. If nothing needs to be stitched, then the thread is cut and carefully hidden on the wrong side of the fabric.

In some cases, it is better to use a needle when closing the last row. This method gives the edge elasticity, which is simply necessary for some parts of clothing (for example, necklines). In addition, needle closure is used when you want the first and last row to look the same.

In order to connect one piece to another, it is not necessary to close the last row. There is a method that will make it easier to complete the product. We knit until the last row. We don’t close it, but simply break the thread. We knit another row or even several rows with an auxiliary thread. Remove the fabric from the knitting needles. We heat treat the edge of our knitting. We put gauze on it and iron it with steam. We unravel the rows connected with an additional thread. We now have an ironed knitting edge. The loops are slightly elongated. Next, we connect the part with another part using a knitted seam.

In openwork work, it is better to close the loops not immediately after the pattern. It is much more convenient to finish knitting by knitting 1 more row. Then this row is closed in any convenient way.

If the fabric is knitted with a purl stitch, then the knitting should be closed like this: the first 2 loops are knitted purl. Next, the edge pulls through the second one. The next loop is knitted purlwise. Pull the resulting previous loop through it. Knit this way until the end of the row.

In some cases, a hook becomes an excellent assistant in closing the last row. It is especially convenient to stretch one loop through another.

In order to finish a row faster, you can replace the working knitting needle with a larger diameter knitting needle. For this purpose, you can choose it several sizes larger.

Some parts require the hinges to be closed at the same time. The easiest way to do it looks like this. At the beginning of the row, close off the required number of loops, knitting them 2 together. After this we knit according to the pattern until the end of the row. At the beginning of the next row, we close the number of loops that needed to be closed at the end of the previous row. Afterwards, the unevenness of knitting will be little noticeable.

The final point of any knitting is to bind off the stitches, that is, to knit them in such a way that they cannot unravel when removed from the knitting needle. This fairly simple step can be performed in various ways with the same result: obtaining a secure neckline or edge of the scarf.

In order to learn how to finish knitting the last row, you can watch our selection of video tutorials and choose a method that will make it easier for you to work, and you will be completely satisfied with the appearance of the knitting edge. In this case, in any case, the strength of the knitting is guaranteed: the loops will not unravel, and the knitted item will remain intact.

When knitting a hat, many people fear that they will not be able to complete the crown. Our master class is designed for those who have already learned to knit and were able to knit a hat; all that remains is to complete it. There are 87 stitches knitted on the hat, an odd number.

The result is a simple rectangle. You can transfer all the loops of the top to a needle and thread and pull all the loops together. Don’t let the fact that there will be a hole at the very top bother you. It makes it difficult to freeze, and if you plan to place a pompom on the hat, it will completely cover it. By collecting the resulting folds, you will get a wonderful hat.

All that remains is to remove the side seam. You can gather the top edge not with the same thread from which you knitted the hat, but with spandex elastic, doubled or tripled. In this case, the hole in the hat becomes elastic, and you can thread hair gathered into a ponytail through it. This makes for an interesting hairstyle.

The first loop is removed onto a knitting needle, the next one is knitted with a knit stitch. Next, the left knitting needle is threaded through the first two loops, so that both knitting needles are located in these loops towards each other. The working thread is grabbed by the knitting needle, and the two loops are knitted together with a knit stitch, which is then removed from the knitting needle.

Then the steps are repeated, the next stitch is knitted. The left knitting needle is again passed through two loops, and they are knitted with a knit stitch. The created loops remain on the edge and are a strong edging that will no longer unravel if the knitting needles are pulled out. Such movements are repeated until the very end of the row, which is why a neat braid is formed on the knitting edge.

This method is very convenient and practical; it is convenient to use if there is a need to finish knitting a scarf or any other edge of a knitted item.

Let's look at the technique of closing loops on a sample knitted with a 1x1 elastic band. Closing the loops behind the front loom will allow the elastic to remain elastic and not pinch at the edge. Two loops are knitted together with a front loop behind the front wall. The resulting loop is removed from the knitting needle and put back on the left knitting needle. The entire row is knitted in this way.

This method is convenient for closing loops, for example, on the sleeves of a sweater, which end with an elastic band. The bottom of the product can be processed in the same way: two loops are constantly knitted together with a front loop. When there is only one loop left at the end, you can hide it with a hook.

In this way, it turns out to beautifully complete the work, completely preserving the properties of a knitted elastic band. This method can be suitable for any items that are finished with an elastic band. The loops close securely and cannot come loose later.

The loops of the last row can be closed with knit or purl stitches. First, we consider the technique of closing with face-type loops. The two outer loops are knitted together with one knit stitch. We slightly stretch the resulting loop and transfer it to the left knitting needle, then it, together with the next loop, is again knitted using a knitting loop. Along the knitting edge, a neat chain is obtained, located on the front side of the work.

The second way to design the final row of knitting is with purl loops. In this case, the thread should be located on top of the left knitting needle. The right one is threaded through two loops, then both of them are knitted with a purl loop.

The knitted loops are removed, the thread is again laid over the left knitting needle, and the new loop is transferred to the left knitting needle. The pigtail on the edge is obtained from the wrong side. If you are knitting a scarf, the border will be beautiful and comfortable.

An elastic band that ends a knitted item, for example, the neck or sleeves of a sweater, or the bottom of a blouse, is knitted by alternating knit and purl stitches. A hook is used to close the loops. The entire procedure can be carefully examined in the video: performing all the movements correctly in knitting is not at all that difficult. If you don’t want to use a hook or you simply don’t have one, you can complete the knitting using the same knitting needles that you used to knit the entire thing.

The knitted loop unfolds, returns to the left knitting needle and is knitted together with the next loop. So the knitting continues: two loops are knitted, and the resulting one returns to the left knitting needle, where it participates in a new pair of loops.

At the end, the thread is cut, tied in a knot and hidden in the seam just made. A neat edge is formed on the elastic that does not interfere with the ability of the elastic to stretch.

A relationship in which there is no longer love is like a suitcase with a torn off handle, which was once very expensive and of high quality, but now only causes inconvenience and prevents us from moving forward, but we keep it, cherishing the memory of its former beauty.

How to end a relationship with a man and do it gracefully? Saying goodbye is always hard. It is especially difficult for a woman to do this, because internally we are afraid of hurting loved ones. However, in some situations, a sharp and uncompromising break is simply necessary, since a relationship in which there is no meaning is like a funnel that drags you to the very bottom.

When initiating a breakup, you always want to do it beautifully, as painlessly as possible, while maintaining a good relationship with your once loved one. In principle, this task is doable, but since parting is always a deep emotional shock for any person, this decisive action must be taken only with a cool mind and firm intentions.

Do you understand that a break in the relationship is inevitable, but every time you lack the confidence to have a frank conversation? Do you gather your courage and prepare a farewell speech, but keep putting it off indefinitely? The article “How to end a relationship with a man and do it beautifully” contains the best tips and recommendations from psychologists that will help you put an end to an interfering relationship once and for all, while maintaining your dignity and without hurting the feelings of the person you, unfortunately or Fortunately, you don’t love me anymore.

The end of the relationship - is it worth it?

First of all, it is important to understand whether this desire is truly deliberate or whether it arose under the influence of quarrels, resentments and conflicts with the young man. According to statistics from psychologists, approximately 20% of couples who seem to have said goodbye to each other forever resume their relationship after a while.

Before making such an important decision as breaking up, psychologists recommend spending some time alone and analyzing your thoughts. In order not to make a mistake prematurely, you can resort to a small “white lie.” For example, choose a day off and tell your boyfriend that you need to spend it visiting distant relatives or on an urgent business trip. On this day, try to imagine that you have already broken up with your partner. Think about how right this decision seems to you.

Also in such situations, psychologists advise identifying the key points that do not suit you in your current relationship. Perhaps you imagine your future life with this person, but you do not like some of his habits, attitude towards you or outlook on life. In some cases, the desire to finally and irrevocably end a relationship is determined by moral fatigue and accumulated claims. However, if it is still difficult for you to imagine your future life without your current partner, it may be better not to break off the union, but simply talk frankly, explaining your feelings to him.

How to end a relationship gracefully

The question of how to end a relationship without hurting someone's feelings seems to have no answer. Breaking up always causes heartache, especially in cases where your chosen one is blissfully unaware of the upcoming event. It is important to understand that you cannot influence the feelings of the other person, but you can reduce the pain and bitter taste that inevitably accompanies separation.

Psychologists have identified several main rules by adhering to which you can break up with a young man so that he does not feel humiliated or deceived.

1. There is a time and place for everything

You should not tell a person that you want to leave him if he had a difficult day the day before or is in a bad mood. At such moments, he will not be able to adequately and calmly evaluate your words, and the separation process will turn into a scandal.

2. Aggression is your enemy

Be calm and reasonable. Before you decide to have a frank conversation, prepare several compelling arguments why you want to break off the relationship, but do not involve your past grievances in them. Focus on the fact that you don't see a future together, but don't focus on the person's shortcomings. Perhaps your chosen one does not want children, and you are already ready to become a mother, or you are dreaming of moving, but he does not want to change anything - try to give as specific arguments as possible.

3. Be prepared for a bad reaction

Since the best defense is attack, when a person hears unflattering statements addressed to him, he will most likely begin offensive tactics, trying to blame you for the problems. You need to prepare for this mentally and not respond to aggression with aggression. It is best in such a situation to stop the conversation and return to it after some time, when you have both cooled down.

4. Be decisive

When thinking about how to end a relationship, think about making as reasoned and confident a speech as possible. Since you have already decided everything for yourself and are sure that there is no point in continuing the relationship, you should not give false hope to the person. Your ex-lover must understand that he can only count on friendly relations on your part.

5. Gratitude instead of blame

When breaking up, you probably want to blame your ex-lover for something. However, if you care about ending the relationship gracefully and not leaving a bad aftertaste, replace all accusations with words of gratitude, because you once loved this person.

How to live after separation

After breaking up, many understand that the question of how to end a relationship with a man was not as difficult as the question of how to move on.

Firstly, psychologists recommend excluding emotions such as anger, resentment and self-flagellation from the range of your feelings. Don't blame yourself for something and deeply analyze the situation. Imagine your breakup as an inevitable fact that you could not prevent.

Secondly, do not expect that immediately after the breakup you will be able to maintain friendly relations with your ex-boyfriend. Try to completely eliminate contact with him at first, but if this is not possible, let him know that you are not yet ready to sort things out. If you both know how to correctly assess the situation, calm, friendly relations between you will resume, but a little later.

And thirdly, fill your life with new emotions and new hobbies, as well as dreams of a new love, which will be much more conscious and happier than the previous one.

Such an accessory for women's clothing as a scarf has been simply irreplaceable for many decades both in the winter cold and on cool summer evenings. It is this seemingly simple product that can add a special style and charm to your look.

Probably very, very many people want to knit a warm, beautiful, and most importantly, unique scarf for themselves or their loved ones. This is a very convenient job for beginner knitters, because you can knit it with either the most common 1x1 elastic band or try your hand at more complex patterns. Therefore, most people take their first steps in the art of knitting with a scarf for themselves, for their baby, or for their beloved man.

But finally, the scarf fabric of the length you need is almost ready and all that remains is to finish the knitting - close the loops.

How to do this so that the edge of the product is smooth and beautiful?

Let's try to figure out what is needed for this.

Necessary materials for knitting

  1. Firstly: everything you need to finish knitting is in your hands.
  2. It's the knitting itself;

Knitting needles.

There is no need to somehow change the position in which you work and you also need to hold the knitting needles in the same way as you held them while knitting the fabric of the product.

The first way to close the scarf loops
This method, perhaps the simplest and fastest, involves knitting two loops together in turn until only one loop remains on the knitting needles. Insert the right, free knitting needle immediately into the first two loops so that it looks out from the opposite side of the product (behind the back wall). Next, you need to grab the working thread and pull it through both loops. Now, instead of two, you have one loop on the needle on the right. We change it to the left one, joining it with the others. The right knitting needle remains free again.

Now just repeat the whole process until you run out of stitches on the left needle:

insert the right needle through two loops,

grab the working thread,

pull the thread through both loops,

change the lonely loop formed on the right needle to the left one.

When you finish knitting this way, the right needle should remain free.

Now, in order to get a strong knot and the knitting does not unravel, break or cut the working thread, leaving a free tail up to 10 centimeters long. Insert a free knitting needle into the remaining loop, pick it up, and then completely pull the thread through it (to be sure, you can make another air loop here, this way the knitting will definitely not unravel), and then just pull it as tightly as possible with your fingers into a knot around the cut thread.
You can finish working on the scarf by carefully tucking the remaining end of the thread between the loops of the knitting fabric. Do not leave this end of the thread hanging freely. Even if you decide to additionally decorate the edges of the scarf with fringe, this end of the thread will not stand out too nicely from the general row, so it is better to hide it by tucking it into the knitting fabric. You can close the loops even easier by replacing one knitting needle with a matching crochet hook. They can much more conveniently pick up the thread and, even more so, pull it through two knitting loops at once.

How to decorate the edge of a scarf with fringe

A beautiful fringe will only decorate the edges of the scarf, and making it is also much easier than it seems to many beginning knitters. It is enough to decide what length of fringe suits you, choose a book (a piece of thick cardboard or a box) with a suitable width and arm yourself with a crochet hook. And then it’s as easy as shelling pears. Wrap the thread around the book as many times as there are loops in your scarf. It’s better, of course, with a reserve, but if you suddenly don’t have enough threads for the fringe, you can always wind and cut more. By carefully cutting the wound threads on one side, you will get a bunch of threads that are almost equal in length and, ideally, twice as long as the intended fringe. From these you will make the fringe for your scarf.

When the threads are cut, it's time to remember our hook. Once again, it will be much more convenient for them to thread our threads of future fringe through the loops on the edges of the product than with a knitting needle. Insert the hook into the loop at the end of the product. Next, we hook the doubled fringe thread and pull it through the loop. Just don't pull it out completely. You will get a kind of elongated loop on the hook and two ends of the thread hanging on the other side of the edge of the product. Hook these two dangling ends and pull them through the loop on the hook. Now you just need to tighten the knot. He won't untie himself anymore.
And again we repeat all the steps, threading our fringe threads one by one through the loops at the ends of the scarf.
Insert the hook into the next loop at the end of the product,
we hook the thread folded in half,
pull the thread through the loop on the edge of the product,
we hook both hanging ends of the thread,
pull them completely through the loop on the hook,
tighten the loop at the end of the scarf.
If you wish, you can make a fringe for the scarf from the same thread, and your product will turn out to be monochromatic. You can choose a thread of a contrasting color or a different texture, or you can even decorate your scarf with multi-colored fringe. Here, as they say, the choice is limited only by your imagination. A short scarf can be decorated with fringe 5-6 centimeters long. And if you have knitted a long scarf that you plan to wrap around your neck several times, then it is better to decorate its ends with fringe 15 or even more centimeters long.

The second way to close the scarf loops

This method of finishing knitting is more suitable when you have knitted a scarf not with a simple elastic band, but with a beautiful three-dimensional pattern. In this case, a tight and even edge with a pigtail can spoil the overall appearance of the product and pull it together at the edges. This method is that we remove the first, edge loop onto the right knitting needle without knitting, and the next loop must be knitted as required by the pattern. Now on the knitting needle on the right you have two loops: knitted according to the pattern and removed from the edge. Pull the knitted second loop through the edge loop. On the right side of the knitting needle there is now only one loop left, which will take the place of the edge loop. Next, we knit the next, third loop according to the pattern. We stretch it through the second one. On the right knitting needle you again have one loop remaining, which will serve as an edge loop.
So, by knitting loops according to the pattern, and then pulling them through the previous loop, you will close all the loops of the product. Fasten the last loop in the same way as described earlier and hide the tail of the thread in the loops of the fabric of the product. Now the edge of the product will be more elastic and will be more in harmony with the relief pattern of the product. In this case, you can also, if desired, decorate the edges of your scarf with fringe using a crochet hook.
So, with the help of ordinary knitting needles, a crochet hook and your own patience and love, you will create a small miracle that will warm your family and friends in the winter cold.
