How to knit long and short fingerless gloves with knitting needles?

the girl has knitted long fingerless gloves on her hands
  • The first step is to determine the length of the future product to the wrist. That is, in the short version, for example, 5 cm, and in the long version - above the elbow.
  • For long mitts, take an additional measurement of the circumference of the place where they begin - above the elbow, elbow, below it.
  • Select a pattern or several to work with and make a test pattern. Determine the knitting density.
  • Draw a diagram of future fingerless gloves, mark the narrow and wide areas. For them, plan to decrease the loops and widen the fabric. For example, for high mitts with the beginning just below the elbow, it is convenient to decrease 3-4 loops every 2 cm and continue until the wrist. Then pick up the loops for the palm.
  • Mark the wrist area with a short elastic band, a purl row, and openwork holes for decoration with a lace or ribbon.
  • A number of needlewomen mark the place for the thumb with a wedge of extension from the wrist. Others knit straight fabric and leave open loops for opening it.
  • Continue working the main pattern/s up to the knuckles or a little higher.
  • Decrease to 8 stitches and switch to a tight elastic band, garter stitch, openwork insert at a height up to the middle of the middle finger. Or distribute the loops as for knitting the fingers of a glove and knit them to a height of 2-3 cm. Close the loops in the usual way.
  • Return to the thumb and knit the fabric for it to a height of 1.5-3 cm.
  • Repeat all steps to knit a second fingerless glove.

Decorate the finished products with beads, seed beads, stones, and ready-made compositions of flowers, leaves, and fur.

Gloves - mittens knitted

cute mitten gloves with a heart and buttons

The combination of knitted mittens and gloves in one product has found its fans among all generations and ages.

  • Getting started is the same for both mittens and gloves. Rib the cuff and continue with the base pattern, adding an extension wedge for the thumb. Be careful in its location. For the right mitten glove there are 2 knitting needles at the end, for the left one - 4.
  • Leave loops for the thumb hole, add half of them. Continue knitting in the round, decreasing over the remaining stitches to the original number at the start of work.
  • Having knitted 3-4 cm, knit the back of the mitten, and knit the inside. This is where you marked the start of the finger flap.
  • Distribute the fabric to work over each finger and tie them halfway.
  • Return to the thumb hole and knit the fabric for it.
  • Pick up stitches from the purl row under your fingers and cast on the same number of stitches. Close into a circle.
  • The first ones are knitted in stockinette stitch, the second ones are knitted with an elastic band, for example, 2x2.
  • After 2 cm, switch to the same pattern in a circle.
  • Having reached the height of the upper phalanx of the middle finger, decrease the loops on the valve in a manner convenient for you.
  • Pull the final 4 loops with thread. For a more rounded finger house, perform this step with 8 loops.
  • Knit the second mitten-glove symmetrically.

For originality and convenience, sew 1 button onto the finished products in the area where the cuff transitions into the main fabric on the back. Tie a tourniquet to the tops of the valve, roll it into a loop and secure its free edge.

In the open finger position, hook the flap onto the button.

How to knit children's gloves with knitting needles for beginners?

Video: Gloves. Knitting

Women's hand skin is particularly delicate and requires special care. However, various care products are not able to completely protect thin skin from frost and autumn winds. That is why various mittens and gloves will never go out of fashion; they not only save you from the cold, but are also excellent accessories. Moreover, knitting any model of such an accessory with knitting needles is not difficult.

Recently, knitted fingerless gloves, that is, mittens, have become popular. Read the diagram and description of the process of knitting mitts just below.

Gloves need the right yarn

It may seem that for warm gloves it is worth choosing threads with thick fibers. Of course, you can prefer rough, but practical and warm wool. But still, gloves, mittens and mittens are sophisticated accessories that should emphasize the elegance of a woman’s hand.

Choose yarn without development or any inclusions, for example, fluffy inserts.

The ideal option for knitting gloves is thin stretch wool. If you were unable to find such yarn in the store, then angora will do, but without the fleece. Do not buy synthetic threads under any circumstances.

A little trick - the gloves will turn out much more elegant and delicate if you work with thin knitting needles. An excellent option would be knitting needles with a diameter of 1.5 millimeters.

Scheme and description of the process

Tools and materials:

— 4 thin knitting needles;

- about 100 grams of yarn;

- several pins;

So, if you have decided to try knitting mitts with knitting needles and have purchased everything you need for this, then it’s time to get to work. In this example, the number of loops is designed for a small and slender hand. If your wrist is a little larger, then you should add the required number of loops at the base.

The first stage is to cast on at least 55 stitches with knitting needles. Next, knit 16 or 18 rows of wrist stitches using the rib stitch. Alternating 3 knit stitches and 2 purl stitches. So, the wrist is ready.

Having finished knitting with an elastic pattern, you need to knit the first half of the stitches with regular knit stitches, and for subsequent stitches choose some intricate pattern. If your goal is fingerless gloves for spring, then you can choose an original openwork pattern. In the case of the winter option, it is best to give preference to a dense pattern, for example, braids.

Thumb wedge

Using the pattern, knit the next 5 rows without any changes. Thus, you have reached row 6, where you need to start working on the thumb wedge. The first step is to outline the loop. Now, on both sides of it, gradually, namely every 3 rows, add 1 loop. It is necessary to add until 14 additional loops are formed on the fabric.

Step six - slip 13 wedge loops onto a pin and cast on 6 loops at the back to tie the jumper. Continue working on the main part of the glove. Every 2 rows, decrease 2 stitches evenly. As a result, a kind of triangle should form. At the end of knitting, there will be 2 loops left on the jumper. You should again have the original 55 stitches.

Let's get to the little finger

Next comes work on the main fabric of the product. Do not forget to constantly try on. So, you have reached the little finger, on one side of which you need to leave 7 loops open, on the other, 6 loops. Now from 4 loops they turn into a jumper, which will serve as the basis for the little finger. Using the same pattern, knit the bases for two adjacent fingers. When you reach the index finger, remember to knit the stitches in the round. Try on the glove periodically. Knit the remaining fingers in the same way.

Finishing knitting

The work on the mitts is almost complete. What remains is the thumb, which can only be knitted using stockinette stitch. Having finished with your thumb, remove all the loops from the pin, and pick up the remaining ones from the edge of the fabric. You should have 23 loops arranged in a circle. All that remains is to knit the required length. Your glove is ready! Using the same principle, start working on the second glove. Once you get used to the process of working on mittens, you can experiment and try to knit men’s fingerless gloves or children’s gloves, decorating them with various decorative elements.

Modernized version

If you love fingerless gloves, but have no idea how to wear them in cold weather, then try a slightly different option. Sew the top of the mitten to the finished fingerless gloves on the outside of the hand. This option is ideal if you are outside for a long time. Whether you work or walk with children on a frosty day, it doesn’t matter. You can always cover your fingers that are frozen in the cold and warm them up like in a mitten, and if necessary, fold back the top.
