UNUSUAL HOLIDAYS

On this day, May 27, you can celebrate an unusual holiday with bold, decisive actions - the Day of Bold Decisions and celebrate a funny holiday by eating sprat - the Day of the Invention of Sprat.

DAY OF BRAVE DECISION

Being brave means doing everything possible for your success, and not waiting for this opportunity to come to you. Today is the day when you definitely need to make some bold decisions. It could be a decision to get married, or to propose to someone, it could be a decision to just try to be polite all day and not be rude, or to fend off a kitten from the threats of angry dogs. The most important thing is to make a decision today and quickly, because today you have a great chance to become brave, if not in the eyes of others, then at least in your own eyes.

DAY OF THE INVENTION OF SPRAT

Sprats are a type of special canned fish. Previously, they were made from a subspecies of European sprat - Baltic sprat; later, special canned food from Caspian sprat, juvenile herring, herring and other small fish began to be produced under this name as well. Today, the word “sprats” simply means smoked canned small fish in oil. To prepare sprat from small fish, it is smoked without any pre-treatment and then preserved in oil. If you are a fan of these canned foods, then you can enjoy your favorite dish on this holiday, the Day of the Invention of Sprats, but you should remember that during smoking sprats, a carcinogen is formed in this product - benzopyrene, which, accumulating in the human body, can cause a number of mutations and the formation of malignant tumors. A person who has consumed only 50 g of sprat receives a dose of benzpyrene into the body equal to the dose received after a pack of smoked cigarettes!

What church holiday is May 27, 2018: Trinity Day

This is one of the 12 (twelfth) main Orthodox holidays after Easter, established in memory of the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles, described in the Acts of the Holy Apostles.

On the 50th day after Easter, on the Jewish holiday of Pentecost (Shavuot), established in memory of the giving of the Law to the Jewish people on Mount Sinai, the apostles gathered in Jerusalem in the Zion Upper Room, where on the eve of his arrest and crucifixion Christ celebrated the Last Supper. And then, “suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And cloven tongues as of fire appeared to them, and one fell upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.” and they began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:2-4).

On that day, Jews from different cities and countries gathered in the city on the occasion of the holiday. Hearing the noise, they crowded in front of the house where the apostles were, and, hearing that inside they were speaking in various dialects, they were amazed. Some mocked the apostles - “they said: they were drunk with sweet wine” (Acts 2:13). “Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and cried to them: Men of Judah, and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words: they are not drunk, as you think, for it is now the third hour of the day; but This is what was prophesied by the prophet Joel: And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. And on My handmaids in those days I will pour out My Spirit, and they will prophesy" (Acts 2:14-18).

The day of the descent of the Holy Spirit and the multilingual preaching of the apostles became the day of birth of the Christian Church - the community of the faithful to Christ, united by the sacraments into the One Body of Christ, the day of the conclusion of the New Covenant of God with people.

On the same day, as Christ promised, the Holy Spirit, the third Person of God, began to act in a tangible way in the world. In honor of this, the holiday got its name.

In the Orthodox tradition, I also call the Trinity Pentecost and is celebrated on the 50th day after Easter and on the 10th day after the Ascension. This double name is evidence of the Old Testament origins of the holiday.

On Trinity Sunday, one of the most beautiful services of the year is held in Orthodox churches. I decorate the churches with birch branches and flowers, the floor is covered with freshly cut grass, and the color of the vestments of the clergy is green: on the holiday of the Trinity, they also remember the appearance of the Trinity to Abraham in the guise of three wanderers in the Mamvrian oak grove, and therefore they decorate the churches with greenery. And flowers remind us that under the influence of God’s grace, human souls blossom with the fruits of virtues.

After the liturgy, the priest, kneeling, reads three special prayers: for the church, for the salvation of all those who pray, and for the repose of the souls of all the departed, including those “those held in hell.” This kneeling prayer ends the Easter period, during which prostrations are not performed in Orthodox churches.

In the Catholic and Lutheran churches, the celebration of Pentecost (the Descent of the Holy Spirit) and the Holy Trinity is separate - Trinity Day is celebrated on the Sunday following Pentecost (this year it coincides with Orthodox). The Feasts of the Descent of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Trinity have the highest status in the Roman liturgical calendar - celebrations.

What church holiday is today, May 27: Sidor Bokogrey

On May 27, the Orthodox Church remembers the holy elder Isidore, who in Rus' was named Sidor and nicknamed Bokogrey, since from this period, as the peasants noted, the cold northern winds, which were popularly called “sivers,” stopped blowing.

“All the Sivers will go to our Sidor,” our ancestors said.

It was believed that killer whale swallows and swifts flew to Sidor from warm regions, bringing summer and joy with them.

According to popular belief, the early return of swifts and swallows prophesied a good and happy year. If the day on Isidore was clear, then a bountiful harvest of pumpkins and cucumbers was expected, and bad weather promised a cool summer. The morning fog foreshadowed an abundance of berries and fruit crops.

Orthodox holiday 05/27/2018: Blessed Isidore, Fool for Christ's sake

Saint Isidore the Fool labored in Rostov. He was born in Germany and was raised Catholic. Having converted to Orthodoxy, he left his homeland and wealthy parents and took upon himself the feat of wandering and foolishness. Everywhere he traveled, he endured insults, ridicule and beatings, endured cold and heat, the 1rre website reports. He acted like a fool during the day and spent his nights in prayer.

“Isidore, through many sorrows you must enter the Kingdom of Heaven,” he often repeated to himself. During his wanderings, he came to Rostov and here, in a swampy place, he built a hut made of brushwood, where he escaped. During his lifetime, the Lord glorified Isidore with His grace; he worked miracles. Isidore died in 1474. They learned about his death when, passing by his hut, they felt a special fragrance. After the burial, a church was built on the site of the hut. Relics of St. Isidora is buried here under a bushel.

What church holiday is today, May 27: Martyr Maxim

The martyr Maxim also lived in the 3rd century. during the time of Decius. He was a simple layman and engaged in trade. With his conversations he converted many to Christ.

One day, when the pagans wanted to make a human sacrifice, he began to loudly denounce their wickedness. For this he was stoned.

And through them he caught the universe. Lover of humanity, glory to You!

Translation: When the Most High came down and confused languages, He divided the nations; when He distributed tongues of fire, He called everyone to unity, and we, in agreement, glorify the All-Holy Spirit.

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Most Holy Trinity, Consubstantial Power, all the good Wine that we will repay to You for everything that You have repaid to us, sinners and unworthy, before you came into being, for everything that You have repaid to anyone us all the days and what you have prepared for all of us forever the future? It is more appropriate to thank You for such good deeds and generosity, not just in words, but more than in deeds, keeping and fulfilling Your commandments: but we, by our passions and evil customs, externally, in countless times from our youth We laugh at sins and iniquities. For this reason, as unclean and defiled, do not appear shamelessly before Your three-bright Face, but below Your Most Holy Name, speak more appropriately to us, even if You Yourself had not deigned to I want to proclaim that the pure and righteous are loving, and sinners who repent are merciful and kind accept. Look down, O Most Divine Trinity, from the height of Your Holy Glory upon us, many sinners, and accept our good will instead of good deeds, and give us the spirit of true repentance, so that we may hate all sin in pure we will truly live until the end of our days, creating the most holy Thy will and glorifying Thy sweetest and most magnificent name with pure thoughts and good deeds. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Trinity, creation of Mark the monk

Almighty and Life-Giving Holy Trinity and the Beginning of Light, all creation, that which is in this world and above the world, by one goodness bringing forth from non-existence and providing for it, and preserving it, and, in addition to Your other ineffable benefits to the earthly race, repentance until death for the sake of the weakness of the flesh, who gave it to us! Do not leave us, unfortunate ones, to die in our evil deeds, and let us not be a laughing stock to the leader of evil, and the envious, and the destroyer; for You see, O Merciful One, how strong are his intrigues and enmity against us, and what is our passion, and weakness, and negligence. But perform Your unfailing good deeds on us, we pray, who anger You every day and hour by violating Your sacred and life-giving commandments. So, let go and forgive all our sins, in our entire past life and up to the present hour in deeds, or words, or thoughts. Make us worthy to finish the rest of our lives in repentance, contrition, and observance of Your holy commandments. If we, seduced by pleasures, have sinned in many ways, or spent time tempted by vile desires, useless and harmful; if, driven by anger and unreasonable rage, they insulted any of our brothers, or because of our tongue they were entangled in inevitable, wrong and strong nets; if any of our feelings, or all of them, voluntarily or involuntarily, in knowledge or ignorance, in infatuation or deliberately stumbled madly; if the conscience has been defiled by evil and vain thoughts; or if we have sinned in any other way, forced by an inclination and habit to evil, forgive us and forgive us everything, O All-Bounteous, Most-Good and Much-Merciful, and grant us for the future courage and strength to do Your will, good, and pleasing, and perfect, so that we, the unworthy, may appear purified from the nightly and gloomy evil with light-like repentance and, as we act well during the day, appear purified to Your love for mankind, praising You and magnifying You forever. Amen.

Likewise, I pray to you, O righteous passion-bearer: remember me, the accursed one, wallowing in the mire of sin: for I can no longer lift my eyes to heavenly Zion, for I am bound by the snares of the devil earthly and worldly cares. Deliver me with your prayers from all the evil slander of the enemy and from all sin, so that I may receive healing from the wounds of sin, from the most wicked serpent imposed on me. All my life I have been cursed in the sweets of this world, exhausted, and I have no helper, and I don’t know anyone to turn to, so that he can give me a helping hand. For this reason I come running to you and pray: O holy and righteous Isidore, give me help on the day of the Last Judgment: when the Son of Man comes to judge everyone, then pray to Him and let him not judge me by my iniquity, but place him at his right hand according to His great mercy. Let us pray to the Master Christ God, that even in this age He may be merciful to us as His sinful and unworthy servant, and may He confirm our thought, even if we turn away from all evil and observe His saving grace. commandments, and the rest of our life will proceed in repentance and keeping God’s commandments, May we, having reached the Heavenly abodes, unceasingly glorify the One Trinitarian God, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer to Saint Nikita, recluse of Pechersk, Bishop of Novgorod

Oh, Bishop of God, Saint Nikito! Hear us sinners, today we have flocked to this holy temple, and worship your honest image, and fall before your holy race, and cry out with emotion: as if we were sitting on the throne of the Holy Majesty Whom this Novegrad, and the only one that lies without rain, you brought down the rain with your prayers, and again This city is surrounded by a fiery flame; through prayer you extinguished the fiery flame. And now we pray to you, O Saint Nikita of Christ: pray to the Lord to deliver this Great Novgrad and all Christian cities and countries from coward, flood, famine, fire, hail, sword and from all enemies visible and invisible, as well as a fair amount of prayers We save you, we glorify the Most Holy Trinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and your merciful intercession, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

The economy of our salvation has been completed! The actions of all the Persons of the Most Holy Trinity in this matter have now come into force. What God the Father pleased to be, what the Son of God fulfilled in Himself, the Holy Spirit has now descended to appropriate to the believers. For salvation is ours "according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ" () .

For this reason we are baptized "in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit", pledging "keep all that I have commanded you" () .

Those who do not profess the Most Holy Trinity cannot have a part in the saving actions of Her Persons and, therefore, receive salvation. Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, the Trinity, Consubstantial and Indivisible, who has given us confession of Himself! “Father Almighty, Word and Soul, the three most essential and divine nature united in the Hypostases, we were baptized into You, and we bless You forever.”

The Father, Son and Holy Spirit have one nature, one nature, one essence. Therefore, the Three Persons are the Trinity Consubstantial. People also have one nature, one nature. But while God is the Indivisible Trinity, divisions constantly occur in people... The Father, Son and Holy Spirit have one thought, one will, and one action. What the Father wills, the Son wills...
