The week-long program of the visit of a delegation of fashion designers, as well as design professors from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Singapore began on December 1.

According to the national manager of the International Trade Center (ITC) in Tajikistan, a group of fashion design specialists from two Central Asian countries will take part in the “Apparel Development Support” workshop, which will be held in Singapore from December 1 to 6. This visit was organized as part of the International Trade Center (ITC) project to strengthen the export competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises in the textile and clothing industry and increase the capacity of trade support institutions in the Republic of Tajikistan. This project is funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

The purpose of the visit is to build design capacity among textile and apparel enterprises and trade support institutions in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan through lectures, practical activities, visits to design studios and large retailers to understand and “touch” the areas of product design, product development and designing clothes. Nargiza Abdumajidova, ITC National Program Assistant in Tajikistan, accompanying the group, says: “This visit to Singapore will provide the Tajik and Kyrgyz textile and apparel sectors with the opportunity to better understand the requirements of client markets to improve competitiveness and diversify export markets. The main areas of training will be: market research through websites, creating design advice, textiles, knowledge of jewelry and its applications in design."

The workshop will be conducted by Textiles and Fashion Training Center Pte Ltd (TaF.tc) (Academy of Fashion Trades). TaF.tc is the training wing of TaF.f (Textile and Fashion Federation). It is also the first Center for Training and Continuing Education (CET) for the textile and fashion industry in Singapore and aims to become a leading capacity building institute in the global fashion industry.

During the visit, the delegation will also visit successful design studios such as Raoul and Ghim Li Global. Raoul is a Singapore-based clothing and leather goods brand whose designs have been worn by celebrities such as Rebecca Romijn, Jennifer Lawrence, Lea Michele, Kelly Rutherford, Pixie Lott, as well as royalty including the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. Ghim Lee is one of Singapore's largest garment factories and exporters, with 15,000 employees and factories in Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, China, and Sri Lanka, producing 65 million units of knitwear per year, sold at Macy's , Walmart, C&A, El Corte Ingles.

DUSHANBE, November 21 – Sputnik, Fatima Yakhyaeva. The first Tajik fashion house opened in Dushanbe. Of course, there have been similar salons in the capital before, but there has never been a truly Tajik one, where national clothing would have been presented. It was opened by a local couturier, who presented about 100 traditional oriental outfits on the first day.

In an interview with Sputnik Tajikistan, he spoke about his dream - to make a colorful Tajik costume the main trend in world fashion.

More recently, no one could have imagined that Central Asian motifs - panels and fabrics made in the ikat style (wild silk or adras)

will be loved by world-famous designers such as Gucci and Dior.

Now, according to Khurshed Sattorov, who has been a participant in almost all foreign fashion festivals in the last few years, Tajik satin and chakan dress can very easily become trendy materials.

“For the fact that ikat has become famous all over the world, we should be grateful to our neighbors - fashion designers from Uzbekistan. It is in this country that Fashion Tashkent Week has been taking place for more than 20 years, where representatives of the local fashion industry invite famous guests from abroad. The event was attended by the president of the National Chamber of Fashion of Italy, the president of the French Federation of Haute Couture and Prêt-à-Porter. And today, probably, there is no boutique in the world where clothes with this Central Asian motif are sold,” noted the Tajik fashion designer.

Khurshed Sattorov has already managed to attract the attention of world fashion trendsetters. It is this step that he considers important in the popularization of national culture.

“During my career, I have managed to show the whole world traditional Tajik outfits made from magnificent, I would even say, royal satin and adras, as well as a women’s dress with a thousand-year history - chakan. Chakan is considered the festive clothing of the southern part of Tajikistan, and is worn most often on Navruz - the holiday of the spring equinox. That's why this dress is so bright and catchy: patterns of seven colors are embroidered on the red fabric. On the other hand, the fashion world loves pastel colors, and I am the first who decided to create a chakan design in soothing colors,” he said.

Indeed, in the spring of 2015, every second Tajik woman went out to the celebrations in a chakan of cream, beige and soft pink colors. All the ateliers in the country began to sew this type of traditional dress only because domestic TV channels played a video with Sattorov’s new collection day and night.

“It’s very nice to see clothes designed by me on the streets. I don’t sue people over copyrights, but on the contrary, I am inspired to new exploits, realizing that my work was accepted by the people. After all, reaching ordinary people is sometimes much more difficult than surprising them with exclusive things,” - explains the fashion designer.

Sattorov is confident that his popularity among ordinary people will help him come closer to his dream: to make a colorful Tajik costume the main trend of the new season.

Craftswomen from the village

Sattorov is proud of another decision: he attracts very skilled craftswomen from distant regions of Tajikistan who are left without work to produce.

“They make embroidery - the most complex part of any collection, which requires many hours of painstaking work. The ability to create traditional embroidery is passed on to Tajik women from generation to generation. By involving them in work, I want to show that this craft will never lose its value, but on the contrary - can become relevant and fashionable,” the Tajik fashion designer emphasized.

Today, more than 30 rural women work in the workshop, most of whom came to Sattorov themselves.

"They knock on the door, asking for work. They explain how important it is for them to earn money, because their husbands are far away working. I can’t just close my eyes to this and pretend that everything will work out. I believe that neither one good deed does not go unnoticed by the Almighty,” said the fashion designer.

According to him, the contribution of rural women in creating costumes gives any collection special energy and strength, because everything made with honest labor always lasts a long time.

“Such things, as the Tajiks say, from heart to heart, will quickly be liked and loved. And in combination with images of “tumorcha” (amulets), “charog” (lamp) and other ornaments, everything becomes more tender and sincere,” believes Sattorov.

In addition to outfits, women help the designer with embroidery for carry-on luggage, hats and decorative pillows. Tajik women receive 100% income from their work, unlike Sattorov himself. This, according to him, is the main goal of the first Tajik fashion house.

Dushanbe, March 16, tajikistantimes.tj — On March 13, 14, 15, Dushanbe became the center of high fashion! These days, everyone was able to plunge into the world of fashion and beauty!

Famous designers from Italy, France, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan presented their spring-summer 2018 collections to Dushanbe residents. Tajik fashion designers did not stand aside either.

“We have witnessed extraordinary, chic, romantic collections from designers and couture from seven countries around the world. Some of them are famous, others joined high fashion for the first time.

It is symbolic and gratifying that precisely in the Year of the Development of Tourism and Folk Crafts in Tajikistan, we were able to gather such masters and thereby provide an opportunity for our designers to adequately present their collections at this level. This was the first big step towards the development of the fashion industry in Tajikistan.

I would like to thank all our partners, their help is certainly noticeable in holding the first Haute Couture Fashion Week in Tajikistan!” — noted the organizer of the event, director of the Tyrone RA Shakhnoza Khamdamova.

In November, a real event took place in the Tajik fashion world - Tajik designers Nafisa Imronova and Khurshed Sattorov demonstrated their collections in Dushanbe on the same catwalk with the famous Japanese designer Junko Koshino, who visited Tajikistan for the first time.

The fashion show was organized for the purpose of cultural exchange between Tajikistan and Japan through fashion, improving mutual understanding and developing friendly relations.

The event was opened by Angelina Rakhmanova, a 4th grade student at school No. 14 at RTSU, who performed the song “Sakura” in Japanese.

“I want to note that holding such events is an excellent opportunity to gather students, models, designers and show the friendship of our two countries, what unites us, to touch the cultural characteristics of our peoples and I am very glad to be part of this event today. The event is simply grandiose. I am happy to meet Junko Koshino, who in this short time managed to tell us about all the intricacies of the art of creating a kimono and its use in modern fashion,” says Nafisa Imronova in her conversation with the site’s correspondents.

Then the collection from “Fashion Jivj” was replaced by mesmerizing images from designer Khurshed Sattorov, who is inspired by the rich history of the Tajik people. National tradition can be traced in each of his creations: fabrics, embroidery, ornaments.

“Today I demonstrated my latest collection “Shokhnomai Firdavsi”. You probably noticed that the models were wearing luxurious crowns. This is explained by the fact that the word “Tajik” itself means “bearer of the crown.” Our people have always been proud wearers of the crown, as my collection clearly demonstrates. It combines the best traditions of ancient Bukhara and Samarkand. As for the collection of works by our Japanese colleague, I was very impressed. She has a very interesting approach to the modern interpretation of the kimono. I looked at it with completely different eyes, because the cut of the kimono is very similar to our Tajik chapan and you can also create a lot of creative things from this,” said Khurshed Sattorov.

The culmination of the event was the demonstration of the Koshino Junko collection, which presented guests with a kimono interpreted in a modern way that can be worn in everyday life. The show was accompanied by a spectacular show program in the best traditions of Japan, from which the audience was truly delighted.

After the fashion show concluded, guests had the opportunity to watch the Japanese feature film “Always: Sunset Over Third Avenue,” which tells the story of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

It should be noted that Junko Koshino is one of the famous designers in Japan. In 1998, she showed her clothing collection for the first time in Paris. She then held fashion shows around the world: in Beijing, New York, Vietnam, Cuba, Poland, Myanmar, etc. Koshino is famous for his work in a variety of areas: from creating theatrical costumes for opera to designing models for sports uniforms. She is also a member of the Tokyo Organizing Committee for Culture and Education of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
