Leather bracelets. How to make leather bracelets with your own hands (MK and video)

AFGHAN BRAID
This type of weaving is widespread in the East. This is how waist belts, horse harnesses, bag handles, etc. are woven. Having learned how to weave such a bracelet, you will at the same time learn a simple and durable way to connect leather strips without using metal fittings.

1. Cut two strips of leather 5mm wide and 160mm long.
2. Using a blunt awl, mark the edges of the slots according to the dimensions given here or change them as desired.
RULE: a) the distance between the slots is equal to half the width of the strip;
b) the number of slots on the strips differs by one (for us it is six and seven).
3. Make the slits with a chisel with a blade width of 6 mm.
4. Sharpen the ends of the strips with a chisel or knife.
5. Take the strip with seven slits in your left hand with the end free from the slits facing you. Use a smoothing iron or a screwdriver to widen the nearest slot. Pass the short end of the six-slit strip down through this widened slit and lightly pull and straighten the weave.
6. Sand the short end of the strip with six slots and glue the strips with seven slots to the bakhtarma.
7. Using an ironing pin, widen the nearest slot on the six-slit strip, pass the seven-slot strip through this slot from the bottom to the top.
8. The principle of weaving is clear. Pass the bottom strip through the top strip each time.
9. Upon completion of weaving, sand the short end of the strip with seven slots and glue strips with six slots to the bakhtarma.
10. The choice of bracelet length is yours. Trim the excess from the ends of the strips. Punch holes. Install the bartack.

SINGLE PUZZLE

This and the next bracelet represent the embodiment of logic problems about braids in leather. We refer lovers of such problems to books on entertaining mathematics.
1. Trim exactly one edge of the cooked skin.
2. Mark the ends of the slots, and then cut them with a knife. The length of the slots is 160 mm, the width of the cords is 3-4 mm.
3. Now trim the second edge of the bracelet.
4. Weaving. Mentally mark the top and bottom of the weave and number the cords from left to right: 1,2,3.
First cycle: - 3rd between 1st and 2nd;
- the bottom of the weave between the 1st and 2nd (turning out the cords should not bother you);
- 2nd on 1st, 3rd on 2nd;
- the bottom of the weave between the 3rd and 2nd. After the end of the cycle, the normal arrangement of the cords is restored.
Second cycle: This cycle can be repeated 2-3 times until the weaving is completed.
- 1st to 3rd;
- the bottom of the weave between the 1st and 2nd;
- 2nd on 1st, 3rd on 2nd;
- the bottom of the weave between the 2nd and 3rd.
Stop when weaving becomes impossible due to the tight arrangement of the elements.
5. Using a blunt awl or ironing iron and tweezers, distribute the weave evenly over the bracelet. Trim the edges with a semicircular chisel, punch holes for the fastening, and install the fastening.

DOUBLE PUZZLE

A variant of the puzzle in which six strips of weaving are used instead of three. In this case, each pair of stripes is taken as one strip, and weaving is performed in the same way as in the case of a single puzzle. Options with nine stripes are possible, with three stripes being taken as one.

GIRL'S BRAID

1. Cut three cords 220-250 mm long and 3 mm wide.
2. Gather the side surfaces of the cords with glue into one strip. The length of such an assembled strip is 25 mm. The opposite end of the cords should be free. Insert the assembled end into a clothespin or clamp.

3. Mentally number the cords from left to right: 1,2,3.
Weaving pattern: 3rd on 2nd, 1st on 3rd, 2nd on 1st, 3rd on 2nd, etc.
Make sure the cords are evenly spaced in the braid.
4. When the length of the braided part reaches 140 mm, clamp the edge of the braided part with a large clothespin or clamp so that the unbraided ends of the cords remain free. Gather the unbraided ends into a single strip with glue.
5. Trim the edges of the bracelet with a chisel so that the length of the unbraided ends is 10 mm.
6. Make two pieces to decorate the ends of the bracelet. Details are shown in the picture.
7. Sand the unbraided ends of the bracelet from the mesh side.
8. Connect the ends of the bracelet with the details of the ends using “Moment” glue, gluing the decorated parts to the ends of the bracelet.
9. Make and install the bartack.

FOUR CORDS BRAID

1. Cut four cords 220-250 mm long and 4 mm wide.
2. Gather the side surfaces of the ends of the cords with glue into one strip. The length of such a strip is 25 mm. The opposite end of the cords should be free. Clamp the assembled end with a clothespin.
3. Mentally number the cords from left to right from 1st to 4th.
Weaving pattern: 5th on the 2nd, 1st on the 3rd, 4th under the 2nd and on the 1st.
Next, the weaving pattern is as follows: the leftmost “ON” and the rightmost “UNDER and ON”.
4. Repeat paragraphs. 4-9 “Maiden braid”. The details of the design of the ends of the bracelet are similar to those given above. Change the width of the gluing area according to the width of the cords.

CIRCULAR BRAID

To make it, you will need, in addition to thin leather, a rope around which cords are braided.
1. Cut four cords 250 mm long and prepare a rope of the same length with a diameter of 3 to 5 mm.
2. Glue the ends of the cords to the end of the rope in a circle. The length of the glued section is approximately 15-20 mm. Additionally, secure the place where the cords are glued together by tightly wrapping them with thread.
3. Divide the cords into two pairs - left and right. Mentally number the cords from left to right from 1st to 4th, take the left cords in your left hand, and the right cords in your right.
4. Weave according to the pattern: pass the 1st cord behind the rope and pass it between the 3rd and 4th, lay it on the 3rd, draw the 4th cord behind the rope and pass it between the rope and the 2nd, lay it on the 1st. Next we weave like this:
the leftmost cord goes under the rightmost cord, the rightmost cord goes under the leftmost cord.
5. When the length of the braided part reaches 130-140 mm, the end of the braid should be secured. To do this, wrap the end of the weave with thread. Glue the loose ends to the rope.
6. Trim the unbraided sections. Their length should be 10 mm.
7. Make two end trim pieces.
8. Lubricate the unbraided ends with Moment glue and leave to dry. Now lubricate the details of the ends with glue on the bakhtarma side.
9. Roll the tubes of design details around the unwoven ends of the bracelet so that the threads are completely covered. Flatten the ends of these tubes by lightly tapping them with a shoe hammer. It is possible that the gluing area on the tube itself will have to be additionally glued.
10. Punch holes for the bartack and install it.

HARLEQUIN

This is a variant of a circular braid, which is woven with two pairs of cords, one of them light, the other dark. Place a pair of dark cords on the left and a pair of light cords on the right and follow all the instructions for weaving the previous bracelet.

The article uses materials from the book by Ilya Mitsel “Skin. Braided and embossed bracelets."

An outdated jacket, an old bag or a piece of leather lying around in the bins is an ideal material for creating a stylish piece of jewelry.

In this master class you will learn how to make a leather bracelet with your own hands from a tin can and a small piece of soft leather. For decoration, you can take any stone that you have, buy a natural mineral, or use an imitation made of plastic or glass. Here amber plays the role of a decorative element.

Preparation of materials and tools

To transform a tin can, a damaged piece of amber and several small pieces of leather into a massive and stylish women's bracelet, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • pieces of soft and thin genuine leather;
  • amber;
  • transparent universal glue “Dragon”;
  • canned food tin;
  • metal scissors;
  • scissors;
  • ball pen.

If you don’t have a stone, you can make it from polymer clay, for example.

Step-by-step master class with photos

First, make a metal frame for your leather bracelet. Tin from a can of canned olives or olives is best suited; it is thinner and at the same time holds its shape well.

Using tin snips, cut out a rectangle and trim the corners, rounding them.

Give the frame an oval shape. Try it on your hand and, if necessary, reduce the length.

Make a backing from the wrong side. To do this, use a ballpoint pen to trace the outline of the frame on a piece of leather. For this stage, you can take material with defects, for example, with uneven coloring or rougher material.

Use scissors to cut out the backing, allowing an allowance of one centimeter around the entire perimeter. Spread the entire back side with transparent universal glue “Dragon” or “Moment”.

Glue the backing to the inside of the frame. Fold the seam allowance to the outside, and make folds from excess leather at the ends. Please note that the leather, lubricated with glue, stretches well. Therefore, at the edges of the blank for the leather bracelet, stretch it slightly.

Let the glue dry for a couple of minutes and cut the folds with scissors as close to the plane of the bracelet as possible.

Decorate a women's bracelet with thin, beautiful leather and stone. To do this, take a segment three times larger in area. Apply clear glue generously to the middle and to the stone.

Mark approximately the center point on the product and start gluing the skin from this place. Place amber in the same place. While the glue is still wet, use your fingers to form folds around the stone. Cover the chipped area with drapery.

Add glue to the remaining surface and glue the leather decor along the entire outer surface of the bracelet.

Shape the decorative drapery to your liking. Fold the edges inward. If possible, try to keep as few folds as possible on the inside of the product. Trim off the excess.

After a couple of minutes, trim off as many folds of leather as possible from the inside of the bracelet.

Cut out another piece for the back side. Measure the workpiece by placing it against the surface.

Apply glue to the entire surface of the part.

Carefully glue the part to the inside, thus hiding the edges that are folded on the outside. Start gluing from the ends of the product.

Once the glue has completely dried, give your leather bracelet its final shape by pressing it into a small oval with your hands for a few seconds.

A thin metal base will help maintain its shape and add elasticity to the structure. Using this technique, you can decorate women's leather bracelets with your own hands and other elements, for example, shells, sea stones and glass, metal parts and even interesting beads. In any case, your masterpiece will be unique.

We also have a tutorial on making a leather bracelet with your own hands, but it uses a cord weaving technique. If you still have some skin left, decorate for yourself or as a gift. It’s very exciting to create; the end result is always an unusual souvenir or jewelry.

Several video tutorials on weaving bracelets

Why are these leather bracelets the best?

They are quite simple to implement. It took us more time to write the master class than to do the work itself.

They are durable. Bracelets made according to our MK will be worn for a very long time.

They are unisex. Although we've broken the bracelets down into categories, they're all really unisex. Even men's bracelets can be made from pink leather, then they will become women's :)

Similar materials

Leather jewelry has probably existed since the time when people first learned to sew clothes from this material. Even very simple belts, bracelets, earrings and pendants made of leather or leatherette look stylish. It’s not difficult to make leather bracelets with your own hands; there are a lot of options for such accessories, and besides, you can always come up with something of your own. This will be discussed in our article.

History and myths

Making leather jewelry is quite simple. You can wear it for a long time, it is very easy to care for, and in addition, it is durable. People learned to make leather bracelets with their own hands a long time ago. Such decorations were especially popular in northern countries; mythical significance was often attributed to them.

Important! Northerners wore and still wear wrist jewelry made from animal skin. But some Indian tribes, as well as residents of remote islands and isolated areas of Africa, until recently had bracelets even made of human skin in use - and this was considered a symbol of courage and victory over the enemy.

Men prefer leather bracelets more often than the fair sex. Until a certain time, it was generally considered a purely masculine decoration. However, modern ladies lead a very active lifestyle, play sports and quite often take on responsibilities that until recently were considered masculine.

So why shouldn't women wear such jewelry? Moreover, a leather bracelet can be not only brutal, but also quite elegant, richly decorated with rhinestones or beads. Of course, such accessories are not suitable for every outfit. But if you prefer a sporty or ethnic style, why not?

What types of bracelets are there?

No one has yet proposed a generally accepted classification of this type of leather jewelry. However, they can be divided according to the manufacturing method:

  • from a single piece of leather or leatherette;
  • from pieces;
  • wicker

In turn, accessories made from a single piece can also be different. For example, you can make a solid bracelet or an openwork one:

  • The second option takes longer, and in addition, special care is required.
  • Solid bracelets can be with overlays, with embossing, with metal inserts - in a word, there is room for your imagination to run wild.

Before you sit down to work, think:

  • what exactly do you want to get;
  • what materials do you have.

The most important thing is the skin. You probably already have a piece, since you came up with the idea to make a decoration.

Important! Scraps from old jackets, boot tops are suitable, even a frayed belt is still suitable for smaller accessories. See if you have a relatively large piece or only pieces left - the shape of the future product will depend on this.

DIY leather bracelet - master class begins

The purpose of any decoration is to make your appearance more impressive. This means that the accessory must, first of all, look good. This largely depends on the material. The skin should be:

  • clean;
  • no abrasions;
  • as evenly colored as possible.

Therefore, first you need to cleanse the skin. Since you need a small piece, the simplest recipe will do. You will need:

  • water;
  • soap;
  • ammonia;
  • cotton swab.

Dissolve about 10 g of soap in half a glass of water. Add 1 tbsp. l. ammonia. Wipe the piece with this mixture and let it dry.

Scuff marks and uneven paint are also fairly easy to deal with. To do this, you need to look at the nearest shoe store and see what leather dyes they have. They usually come in aerosol packaging, sometimes in plastic bottles with a brush attached. Renew the piece and you can start making leather bracelets with your own hands.

DIY leather bracelets for men

Perhaps this is the simplest version of leather jewelry. It is made from a rectangular strip. You need to prepare:

  • a piece of leather;
  • hammer;
  • set of buttons;
  • set for inserting buttons;
  • tape measure;
  • ball pen;
  • ruler (preferably iron);
  • square;
  • cardboard;
  • pins;
  • thick needle or awl.

Important! The number of buttons depends on the width of the decoration. You can make the clasp with one button or two or three. In addition, you can decorate a men's leather bracelet with one or two buttons.

Sample:

  1. Measure your wrist circumference. Since the fastener will have buttons, you need to add another one and a half to two centimeters so that the edges can be overlapped.
  2. Determine the width of the future product. There is no need to leave any allowances here. The optimal width of a men's bracelet is 4-5 cm, but it can be more.
  3. Draw a rectangle on the cardboard according to the measurements.
  4. Cut it out (it is better to do this using a metal ruler with a sharp knife).

Important! For the template, it is better to take thin but rigid cardboard. This is especially important if you are planning to make an openwork product.

We cut the bracelet

Now the template needs to be transferred to the skin:

  1. Place the skin outside down.
  2. Apply the template.
  3. Trace it with a ballpoint pen.
  4. Cut with a sharp knife.

Important! You can cut either using a template or using a ruler. In principle, you can do without a cardboard pattern if the piece of leather is smooth and its corners are straight (for example, a fragment of an old belt).

Buttons and what to do with them

It’s not difficult to figure out the buttons – you can immediately see which part should be on top and which on the bottom. In principle, you can go to an atelier or sewing store, where they probably have a device that allows you to do this in a few minutes. But there is nothing difficult about putting these elements on a men’s leather bracelet with your own hands.

Important! In the set for inserting buttons you will find a black circle - it is placed under the product so as not to scratch the table. There is a piece of rod there - without it you cannot install the button. In general, it is not difficult to understand which part is needed for what.

We pierce holes

You already have the blank, now you need to figure out where to make the holes. To do this, put the bracelet on your wrist and make marks. Tailor's pins are best suited for this purpose:

  1. Insert one pin from the edge of the workpiece that is on top.
  2. Insert the second pin into the corner below.
  • Holes in leather are perfectly made by the most ordinary office hole punch.
  • If it is not there, you will have to do it with an awl or a gypsy needle.

In any case, the hole should be the same size as from the hole punch.

We put buttons

Now - the most important thing. Each button consists of six parts - two main parts and four attachments. You need to start inserting from the part that will be on top. The upper main part looks like a mushroom - it has a cap and a short stem:

  1. Insert the leg into the hole so that the cap is on the outside.
  2. Put on the attachments - the one with the thread should be on top.
  3. Clamp it all together with pliers or a special press.
  4. Insert the bottom of the button in the same way.

Important! The cap of the button should align with the recess in the nozzle.

Decorating the bracelet

Actually, a men's leather bracelet made with your own hands is ready. But if you wish, you can decorate it. For example, insert a couple more buttons in different places. You can do it differently - decorate the decoration with a simple overlay geometric pattern.

You will need:

  • multi-colored pieces of leather;
  • leather glue;
  • scissors;
  • ball pen;
  • ruler.

Make several elements - for example, brown triangles and white squares. It is best to draw them with a ballpoint pen on the wrong side. Cut out the elements. Place them on the bracelet, and then glue them with leather glue or universal glue according to the instructions.

Wide bracelet

The technology for making a bracelet with a width of 10 cm or more is no different from that used for strip decoration. But you need to make a pattern. A pattern for the lower part of a narrow sleeve is most suitable.

Important! You can rip open an old shirt or blouse and make a template.

Features of making a wide leather bracelet:

  • The pattern will be in the form of a trapezoid.
  • The buttons should be placed at equal distances.
  • Of course, you will need more of them - from 5 to 10.
  • You can insert eyelets and make a lace-up decoration. True, it is difficult to do such work with a hole punch and pliers - you need a press.

Women's bracelet with chain

Making women's jewelry is a somewhat more complex process, but this activity provides simply unimaginable opportunities to show your imagination. For an elegant, yet very simple, women's bracelet you will need:

  • thin strap;
  • long chain;
  • scissors or knife;
  • press or hole punch.

To make a leather bracelet:

  1. Cut 2 strips of the same length. The size does not matter; the width of the decoration itself will be adjusted by the chain.
  2. Mark the holes at both ends of each strip using pins or a ballpoint pen.
  3. Make holes with a hole punch or awl.
  4. Pass the chain through both holes of each strip.
  5. Place the bracelet on your hand so that both strips touch your wrist.
  6. Adjust the length of the chain - if necessary, rearrange the lock and remove excess links.

Important! This DIY leather bracelet will look very impressive if you give each strip the shape of an arrow.

DIY braided leather bracelet

A simple but effective decoration. For such a bracelet you will need a strip of leather approximately one and a half times longer than the circumference of the wrist. Think in advance how your product will fit on your wrist:

  • lace-up;
  • on a buckle;
  • on a button or button.

To weave a bracelet you will need:

  • strip of leather 2-5 cm wide;
  • sharp knife;
  • metal ruler;
  • ball pen.

Option 1

A three-strand bracelet is woven like a regular braid:

  1. Mark the wrong side of the strip, dividing it widthwise into 3 equal parts. It is better to draw with a ballpoint pen on the wrong side.
  2. Cut the strands, not reaching about 1 cm from the edge.
  3. Place the strip right side up.
  4. Take the left strand.
  5. Pass it over the second and under the third.
  6. Take the strand that is now on the left.
  7. Pass it over the second strand and under the third
  8. Weave this way until there are 2 cm left to the end.
  9. Sew the strands together to create a continuous fabric.
  10. Attach the clasp.

Important! If the bracelet will be held on a button, make an air loop from leather or thick threads. In the same way, you can weave a belt or leather bracelet with your own hands from any number of strands.

Option 2

A decoration in which only the middle strands are intertwined, while the outer ones remain straight, will look very impressive - they can be made a little wider than the middle ones.

Master class on making a leather bracelet:

  1. Divide the strip into 5 parts.
  2. Cut in the same way as in the previous case, that is, leaving an uncut piece of approximately 1 cm.
  3. Draw the second strand from the left over the third and under the fourth.
  4. Don't touch the last strand.
  5. Draw the strand that is now second from the left in the same way as the previous one.
  6. Braid until there is 1cm left to the edge, then sew the strands together. The extreme ones can be shortened a little.

Option 3

It is not necessary to make a braid along the entire length of the bracelet. You can first braid a braid 2-3 cm long, then leave a gap, braid the braid again, etc.

Option 4

You can make a braided lace bracelet. Weave the decoration. Make holes along the edges - one or two at a time - and insert a thin leather cord.

How to make an original leather bracelet with your own hands?

Women's accessories differ from men's in their elegance and the ability to use a variety of materials for decoration.

Bracelet with voluminous decorations

If you wish, you can make a leather bracelet with voluminous flowers. For this you need:

  • strip of leather;
  • pieces of leather of the same or a different color;
  • leather glue;
  • scissors;
  • sample;
  • pan.

How to proceed:

  1. Make a bracelet from a strip of leather and attach a clasp to it.
  2. To decorate your product, cut out petals from pieces of leather - circles or ovals of the same size. It is better to do this according to a template.
  3. Place the petals inside out on a clean, cold frying pan. Begin to heat the pan slowly. The petals will bend. Once they have the desired shape, carefully assemble them.
  4. Combine 3-4 petals into a flower, and then glue or sew on the bracelet.

Important! The middle can also be made from a piece of leather, a bead, seed beads, or even a colored feather.

Openwork bracelet

It is made almost the same way as a strip bracelet. Only the strip is something like leather lace.

Important! To make such jewelry you need a very precise template - strictly according to the size of the bracelet.

All kinds of holes are cut into the template - flowers, petals, Celtic weave, and basically anything you like. Then the template needs to be placed on a strip of leather, fastened so that the pattern does not move out, outline future holes and carefully cut out. The clasp can be made with buttons or lacing.
